Pictures of a Mark V in what looks like camoflaged defensive firing position surfaced on ebay.de recently with a caption that suggests the vehicle was a captured Estonian vehicle used by Red Army during in the summer of 1941.
The two images from the auction can be found here:
Yes, saw this on eBay myself. I wouldn't trust any eBay caption but I do think it's Estonian. Whether it's defending Estonia against the Soviets or Soviet Estonia against the Germans I wouldn't like to say. No would I want to hazard a guess as to whether the estonians or the Russians re-armed it. But intriguing nevertheless.
I agree about ebay captions. Considering that both the Soviet and German invasions occurred during the summer its hard to tell anything by the photos alone. However, If I had to make a bet, I would put my money on the photo having been taken by a German, just because so many of them where shutter bugs in 1941. Russian photos from the period are no where near as common. Did you notice the shadow of the guy on horse back in the second photo - maybe the camera man? Well it's a good puzzle.
Anyway, the vehicle has interesting camoflage paint scheme.
If itīs an ex Estonian, itīs at least repainted, because the Estonian (as well as the Latvian) Mark V's were in a uniform color. The Soviet Mark V's are known to have had camo schemes. Looks like we're not getting further than an educated gues...
What cracking pictures - Soviet or German WW2 MkV tanks.
Wishful thought! As Trumpeter and Dragon only mainly seem interested in Soviet and German tanks why not have them make WW2 mkV's to keep their market happy! Certainly they must be getting desperate for new ideas -just how many different types of T34 can they think up.
I am sure Michel could make Allied WW1 for such models.
