Intriguing photo with the checkered pattern on the Mark V.... According to the Russian forum it´s in Kiev in front of the Dynamo Stadium. Could the checkered pattern have anything to do with the Dynamo Kiev football club?
If so, it's fun to note that a few years ago a Panzerhaubitze 2000 has been painted in the colors of Schalke 04...

Or is it the first example of urban camouflage?

I've always thought it must have been a punishment paint job. Incidentally, by the time the Wehrmacht reached Kiev this tank had been painted again but the checker pattern still showed through.

Probably not, because Dynamo FC have never worn checks. Though if the checks are blue and white, it could be a reference.

Thanks for the Kharkovforum link. It had the first confirmed photo of one of the Rostov on Don tanks I'd seen. That might help me to identify one of my unknown photos that I suspect may be Rostov.

Beautiful picture! Very nice details.

Because of "Ricardo", I suppose this is from Russia or Ukraine?

Ricardo were the engineering company in Shareham, Sussex that made the engines.
