The German nomenclature for the piece was: 7,7cm lFK L/35(Franz.)
This was one of 2 mobile mounts utilized for the captured M1897 piece.
To gain maximum elevation for anti-aircraft work, the original carriage trail was torched off 4 feet behind the trunnions. This shortened trail was then secured to a bulk-head in a purpose built carriage. A curved guide/support was then secured forward to a bearing where the original axle had been. The whole gun was then balance on the new axle below for firing. This curved support was folded back from the axle when in travel mode. The orignal wheels were fitted, and the splinter shield retained, though modified.
Though the new carriage appears to be borrowed from a light artillery piece, it waspurpose designed and built.
Guns were bored out to take the 7,7cm projectile, and this weapon system became the second most numerous in the German army Flak arsenal. ( More than 400 so converted. )
Only the Ruski 7,62cm 02 served in greater numbers for AA work.
