COOL!!!

1/10 scale? That'd make it nearly 3 feet long! What a monster!

What's it built from? It looks damn chunky.

hi roger!

wait a moment I must calculate...

hmm...its weight is ca. 67 lbs (over 30kg)

and the length is...2,7 ft (ca 0,82m)

of course it is a real "heavy" tank. it is built nearly complete from alumimium and other metal.

if you want to see the whole building report visit: www.rc-mm.de  >>forum,  >>building reports, >> Sonjas MARK V   there you get all infos about my "monstermachine"

much fun by watching it!!

Truly awesome! That is one heck of a magnificent model!

For anyone not sure how to navigate the forum it's on, here's a direct link (I don't speak German, but the photos alone are worth it! And there are 6 pages!):

http://www.rc-mm.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=467

Truly, it's a serious bit of kit. Some idea of size can be gained from this photo (I assume those are standard-sized cats, or do they make them Extra Large in Germany? ):

HM Landship on trials:

And here she is, in fresh camo:

Unbelievable, simply unbelievable! Many thanks for sharing your work, Blacksonja!

hi @ all

Yes, roger, I assure you, my cats are not different size than others

the second pic you posted was really the first "outside" trial. I proved there for the first time, how "HER MAJESTY LANDSHIP MARK V" (sounds good doesn`t it?) behaves in rought terrain. though it is very heavy, it climbes every elevation as long the tracks grip in the underground, and that with a real slow velocity.

it´s a pity that you speak no german...you´d definitely like the comments I wrote...

at all it is a big thing for me, to have fellows far over the borders of a country, having fun with the same interests.

at last, can you tell me, how I´d be able to store pics in this side?

much regards, sonja

Cracking pair of cats, Blacksonja - good thing your tank is tough! I know what the little beasties can do when they put their minds to it...

It sounds like your tank behaves very much like the real thing. Bet you've been tempted to fit guns that fire blanks...

Actually, I'll put your forum through a translator (yes, I know, they can be a bit rough, but I find a bit of common sense can usually overcome it).

Now, as for posting images, well first you need your images stored online at, say, a photohosting site like www.photobucket.com.

Then, once you have an image in your album (which I've called 'blacksonja' for the sake of argument) - let's call it 'bigtank' - you'll have a picture with a URL, something like this (the spaces are there because otherwise the computer thinks it's a real link):

w w w.photobucket.com/blacksonja/bigtank.jpg

You then put the HTML tags either side, like so (I have included spaces in the following, again because otherwise it gets mistaken for a real image and you won't see anything - so remember, you add those tags but without any spaces):

[ img ] w w w.photobucket.com/blacksonja/bigtank.jpg [ /img ]

You must use the square brackets.

Good luck!

Oh yes, roger, you don`t know, HOW right you are...less BAGHIRA, the black one, but STITCH, the small tiger, sometimes is a litte demon but with my MARK V they are chanceless...at outside it is overall metal. no chance for PANTERS and TIGERS

unfortunately in germany it is forbidden, to have any fireing (is that written right ?) cannons or guns in models, not even if its only shot in air without bullet. only "soft air" with 0,22er bullets are allowed, but only if they are weak enough...   NO thanks, not in my model! I must confess, nor the turrents, neither the guns moving radio-controlled, I simply haven`t enough money to buy the servo-engines, the transmitter-nautic-moduls and the receiver-moduls to control them wireless. my whole model is as cheap as possible..for example: my driving motors are made of cordless screwdrivers (13€ apiece), or almost all of my aluminium is from the local junkyard.

ok, with the photos...I think, I wait until I have my own homepage..till then, readers can look on the rc-mm.de page, to see what happens. (or you put them here in )

there you are very right!! most of the translators are very rough...some time ago  I tried to translate an english text about tanks into german...it translated "tank" with "wassertransporter"  (watercarrier) instead of "panzer"... ...now I translate for my own if needed, but most of the texts I understand in english (thanks to my dreadful english-teachers.. )

much more important as a fireing gun (for me) is a real engine-sound when the model is in action. at time I´m in conversation with the IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM in London, to send me real sounds of an original MARK V, like starting engine, running neutral, driving and shutdown. if things work out, I save the sounds on a sound-modul living in my tank and power it with an 18watts amplifier (in a model!!) coupled with a 84Decibel speaker. I think that might roar really loud...

imagine...the MARK V model moving over terrain roaring out the original enginesound of the ninety-year-old heavy-tank...wouldn`t that be really great? now I hope to receive the sounds...nearly can´t wait for it...

much regards, sonja

Ah, is that 'Baghira' as in the panther in 'The Jungle Book'? But where does 'Stitch' come from? 'Lilo & Stitch'? Wherever the name is from, they're very cute cats.

On another forum, on a thread about r/c combat warships, there was a conversation about using mechanisms that 'fire' a puff of powder in the air, sort of like squirting talcum powder, to get the effect of gunfire - I'll have a look for it tomorrow and see if there's any useful information for you. It could be something to add in future when you have a bit more time and money to spend - certainly your model is large enough to fit in the necessary equipment!

As for the engine sound, if the IWM can't help, maybe the Tank Museum at Bovington can?

Let us all know how it goes - good luck, Blacksonja!

Oh, yes you are right. Baghira IS the panther from "the Jungle Book" and he behaves as the original...smooth and wise... Stitch is really like the Stitch in "lilo & stitch", therefore we named him so.

I know some powder, I earlier used im my fireshows, called "lycopodium" (bärlappsporen...don´t know the english word for it) that would fulfill the meaning you told. Or guncotton also can be used.. lets look, what the future brings. room is more than enough in the model for sundry equipment. in next time I can´t realize such ideas, but therefore they are not dying for ever.

Hmm...Bovington...I mailed my problem to Bovington (as I know, they have a real MARK V still driving)...and they answered...it would cost me some thousand (!!!) pounds, if they recorded the sounds I need, for me. Sorry, too expensive! But I have good chances at the IWM. Its only a questione of paying the price of the CD with the sounds. They want credit card and I have non...I´d pay per bank transfer, but have no account number yet. But, I think, this problem is to be cleared without bigger problems.

Have you seen the new pics of my cannon ammo? Made of 0,22er magnum shell casings and alu bar.

Today I received the 18 watts amplifier and the speaker . Tomorrow I´ll assemble it in the tank. Its a pity, that I don´t have the finished sound modul...

I know...patience is needed... (really difficult for me)

Thanks for your good wishes, best regards, Sonja

Thousands of pounds?!?!?!?!?! Flaming heck! I suppose they're talking about cranking up the old Mark V for real. Sounds rather extreme to me, though...

Here's that link I said I'd find to a conversation about simulating gun smoke:

http://www.shipmodels.info/mwphpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4018

One chap wrote:

SIMULATED FIRING

Guns can be made to simulate cannon fire by using a simple system. When firing, CO2 is released into a plastic pill bottle via 1/8" hose inserted from the top of the bottle 3/4 of the way down. The bottle is filled 1/3 of the way with talcum powder. At the top of the pill bottle, ¼" hoses are connected to the gun ports. The CO2 blows down on the talcum powder creating a cloud that shoots out of the gun barrels. This creates a realistic simulation of actual cannon fire.

It's from this page:

http://www.combatships.com/technical.htm#simfiring

Which, in turn, is from this rather groovy site for a company that makes 1/48 scale r/c combat ironclads!

Oh yes, Roger, definitely that they are talking about!! They seldom start it for special events.  I have a video record (recorded from a TV  report about WW1 tanks), where they presented exactly this MARK V from Bovington, making a show with driving and fireing guns and machine guns (sadly the sounds of the engine are too bad to use). But to my question about sound recordings from such an event, they answered the same...the recordings are not usable for my requirements and...now, the rest you know..

today I built in the new speaker and the amplifier, I ordered thursday.

think, its much power in it...here the links to the photos:

hi @ all

while waiting for the sounds, I had to overwork my transporter (to be seen in the pic with the cats). the wheels of it (inliner wheels) were too small for rough terrain and drowned in mud. I bought a "bollerwagen" (dont know the english word) and reconstructed it for beeing able to carry my MARK V. same time I built in a litte platform under the "deck" in the rear, where my equipment box finds some place.

here are the links to some photos:

Ah, at least you didn't do that for the title of the whole thread, unlike some people... *whistles innocently*

Anyway, awesome! It's great to see more photos of your tank finished and painted. That bollerwagen looks sturdy, but it makes me a little nervous too - is it a bit tall, and thus perhaps top-heavy? It would be a damn nuisance if the thing tipped over with your tank on it!

Oh Roger...how could you whistle innocently, without getting red (blush??) as a fire extinguisher...

you´re even not quite unright...I although have objections in that way...the bollerwagen is relative high and this may make it instabile...particularly cause I want to carry the MARK V on it when carrying it in my car... therefore I have in mind, to chain the model onto the transporter...in front on this eye:

http://www.rc-mm.de/wbb2/at tachment.php?attachmentid=560

and in the back on the two eyes left and right (with shackles)..ok, that may prevent the tank from falling down, but not the transporter from tilting...thereto I think, the bollerwagen looks more instabil as it is in the truth...its clear that tilting MAY happen...but I dont think, danger is as big as it looks (anyway I hope so.. )

its my plan to make many photos of the tank when its finished and spring is here again. found some pretty places to do so. but that lasts still some time, even though the tank is not jet finished.

at time, I´m still waiting for the sound CD...(can hardly wait for it)..

now, lets hope for the best...
