crew allocation

hw were tank crews allocated ? did they stay together as individual crews or did they have a pool for each major engagement?

were they all billeted together ?

how seperatewerethe officers to the men whilst at base ?

From what I've read the crews tended to stay together, until incapacity or death forced a change. Wouldn't like to say this was a hard and fast rule though.

At that era, the social seperation of Officers & other ranks was very rigid.
You'd have an Officers' Mess, NCOs' Mess and one for the riff-raff!

But the best mess was the sargeants for grub and everything else !!!!!!
