Patton and U.S. "Tanks" to France, 1917?

This might or might not be about Tanks, depending on the answer.

Am reading George S. Patton's Papers. He differs from Wikipedia on a number of matters and must therefore be mistaken, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Diary entry while aboard R.M.S. Baltic en route for France:

"the boat has about 100 trucks and several 'tanks' with out (sic) the armor. Boat would be a fine prize for a U-boat."

The date is May 29th, 1917. To what can he be referring? Holts of some description?

Remember those films of tractors (baby Holts) on criticalpast? IMO he is referring to those.

That crossed my mind, but I think it's too early. The US had only been in the War for 9 weeks or so.

but France had at least one Baby Holt, and the British were using regular Holts for gun haulage - so maybe the "tanks" were Holts that were destined for the French or the British? Or perhaps they had been re-assigned to the US Army (like they did with the Mack Bulldogs, or the Quad Trucks)? Just a thought.
