I have attached screenshots to show how Curve can be used to lighten the dark areas of photos and having little or no effect on the light areas. Curve is found in the Colours menu.
It is important to make a copy of the original image to work on so the original is not altered. Iselect the image to modify and save it adding 'lt' to the file name, the imagestays on the screen with the new name.
If this isn't clear post queries here and I will reply.
I'm having problems uploading the images
Please be patient!!

Yes, I do use Picasa but it doesn't have theCurves feature, when the 'Fill Light' is usedit uniformaly lightens the image so the light areas burn out.
Picasa is brilliant for many things, such as straightening the image etc.

Ruddy computers, can't trust then - I just posted about using that in another topic - http://landships.activeboard.com/t46011537/posting-pictures/?page=1#lastPostAnchor - still working for me. If your browser is suddenly blocking JavaScript that would be one reason. Or if your Java installation (a different thing) has gone wonky or if ... (Venus is in the house of Sagittarius, ascending) ... Aaagh! Not so much it doesn't work, the miracle is that it ever worked.
