Well worth posting. An interesting and detailed variant of Camo on Military soft skin MT of the period and particularly from the Army who led the way regarding such things in WW1. Would it be fair to say that there is some similarity here to the Camo pattern used on some of their artillery and armour. Not a lot of pics in general circulation so it is good to see same here on the forum.
Enclosed is an odd one from the WW1 copy of the "Times History of WW1" from the other side which I think is rather unusual.
Yes there is no shortage of artillery (particularly French) images containing various camo designs and as you point out the other side was not backward in applying numerous schemes of their own.
I have a particular side interest in soft skin vehicle use of camoflage markings. I have just finished a book on the Mechanicalization of the Australia Army 1901 to 1919 (based on British Establishments and MT) which is at the printers and in my Annex on vehicle/Unit markings I included a few pages on Camo. Most of the British examples I have seen (which was not a lot) were quite randon compared to the French designs however one of the Brit. searchlight lorry images I used has a rear canvas canopy painted in the German aviation losenge pattern which is interesting.
There is quite a bit of archive material at the Australian War Memorial on the subject that I will get to one day after I get other projects out of the way and have a need to fly south to do more research.
