Help needed with GMC Truck!
Permalink Closed

I am certainly no expert on softskins, and this one really got me stumped.

It's an american GMC truck, that's for sure, from the Great War Era (one suggestion on the Museum sign said "1918", but that is probably the year of purchase).

Knut Erik Hagen of Norway has sent me a row of nice photos of this truck, but until I know what it is, I can't post them. Any american out there who knows his trucks?

Thanks in advance

Um... I'm afraid I don't have information right now, but I'm looking for info on General Pershing's transports in 1916. At that time, he was off chasing Pancho Villa in Mexico on the "Punitive Expedition." They used a bewildering variety of trucks: about 128 different, I hear. So good luck!

If I blunder across anything, I'll let you know.

Hello Guys

To my knowledge ths GMC is a 1915 version, with 1919 style tires, GMC trucks like those of other American manufactures  played a vital role in World War One. The other thing wrong with this picture is the Color of the truck, this is all wrong, the americans used a early form of OD Grean, slightly olive in apperance, they also use a camouflage, with blotches of white, sand, and dark green, with black dividing lines.

As far as the vehicle's used by Pershing in Mexico, there were indeed 128 different makes and models, Here is just a few: Jeffery,White,Packard, Locomobile, Riker, FWD,Pierce-Arrow,Ford, GMC,Kelly Springfield, Saurer,Velie,Graham,Mack,Kato and Sampson. The FWD was the most prevelant truck use in Mexico, following was the White. Tractors were also used, The Holt was the most common, but the Yuba,Bullock-Lumbard were also used. along with many other small designs of that day. If you wish Steve, I can supply you with more information on the Punitive Expedition and its transport vehicles.

all the best

Tim R.
