Being an ex lancer, I got abit upset when watching the program as my old regiment was part of the forces at Mons, the Retreat from Mons and later at the Somme. We should not forget the part that these horses played in WW1!!
Well, BBC, IBA and (I guess) ITV don't allow access even to the previews for us furriners in the blighted Dominions, we shall have to wait for local airing. Of course there's Expat shield to get around it but that's probably cheating (unless one is an actual tax-paying expat) and using proxies these days might excite the interest of all the wrong folk.
But yes, the animal conscripts without recourse or recompense, so sad and adding to the burden of grief of their handlers and the general public. The fate of animals in their innocence preys so much on the conscience and emotions but that's the unique human property - though it was insufficient to spare them.
Thanks for that James, sounds like it is just about worth catching when it comes. Now if only I can remember to do so when it does.

Sorry about that, Stephen. If your ancestors had kept their fingers out of the till you wouldn't be in this predicament.
Indeed, I could instead be in the land of my fore-fathers, rubbing shoulders with the descendents of the undetected felons they left behind them, all in breathless anticipation of the coming summer, that special day in July or maybe August. Ah, woe.

Anyway, the doco was OK. Not sure that, as was implied with the careful use of language, the charge at Moreuil Wood in March 1918 was the turning point of the War. Nor that after Amiens the cavalry returned to its traditional role of scouring the countryside and harrying the retreating enemy. More to do with Tanks and aircraft, I think.

Hey Stephen,
After watching Sunrise this morning (and for the past 3 months) I'm thinking that maybe I'll travel to the Old Country on that special day in July or August just to remind myself what summer was supposed to look like!! (And I should be able to get a canoe from anywhere on the eastern seaboard of Australia to get me there)
Six months in chokey for stealing a bottle of water; just like the good old days.
Back on topic: I thought there was a bit too much anthropomorphism in the doco. And I found myself wishing Mark Evans would talk a) like a grown-up and b) less.
