Not unusual I think - prisoners were made useful when necessary, as I understand it; certainly on the way to detention after capture at least.
Alternatively he may not have been told to lend a hand, but is merely passing by after surrender and his minder is out of sight of the camera.
I gave a start when I saw that the model is a Tadpole - nice to know I'm not the only fan
Adrianowro - your sledge basically looks good to me, but I think the vertical posts need to be shorter - if you look at the last of the period photos you posted, the sledge is about two times as wide as it is high. Length looks good though.
Would also say that the aftermarket metal gun barrels look too long, if that;s of help.

Have had a look at bottom photo from original post and tried to roughly project a line for where the top of the sledge would hit the tank towing it; conclusion is vague, but I estimate overall height of sledge no higher than the smaller, lower bearing cap for the secondary gears.
In dimensions - about 2.75 to 3 feet, perhaps a metre (3.28 feet) at most. Width is approx 6 to 7 feet (1.83 to 2.13m) depending on height.
Seven feet wide might make sense, given that the tread of the tank (distance between centre lines of tracks) is seven feet, so a sledge that width would slide along the track imprints.
