I have been meaning to get "Tanks and other Armored Fighting Vehicles 1900-1918" by B.T. White for a long time. However, every time I found it, it was very expensive. I recently aquired a comparitively cheap copy of it, and I am very impressed by it!
While by no means complete in the Tank section, it has an absolutely incredible ammount of Armored Cars. It has a wealth of readily accessible knowledge. There are no photographs in the entire book. Instead, 100 pages are devoted to intricately drawn images based on photographs. The drawings are very well done, and in color. One may find this bad, but in fact, a painting can show rivet patterns and other details more discernably than an old foggy black & white image. Another 90 or so pages are devoted to text explaining the vehicles illustrated.
This book is a little over 7 and 1/2 inches tall. A fairly small book! But packed with GREAT reference material. This book has wonderful drawings of Armored Cars I have never seen before. Lots of them!
There are in fact... So many WWI armored cars listed in this book that i have -never- seen before, that I cannot even attempt to list them all.
If you can find a copy of this book - get it! It is easly with the $20-$35 you can probably find it for.
I know that Peter has a copy of this book, aswell as a few othe members of the community, but I just recieved my copy today, and I thought I'd spread the word about how great a little book it is.
this will really annoy you - i found a copy in my school's library (i`m a teacher) and borrowed it. i kept it for so long that they just gave it to me. apparantly no-one ever borrowed it anyway. i guess that the first world war just doesnt seem as exciting as vietnam or desert storm to some people! it is an excellent little book
