Hello,

I've recently bought Emhars Mk.IV female and were planning on building one of the two British tanks, however there is no historical information on the markings provided. Does anybody know what subjects the markings are supposed to represent?

Thanks in advance / Henrik

Not having this kit (most of my WW1 tanks are 1/32 scratch built) couldn't say - any chance of seeing a scan of aforesaid markings?

Hello and thanks for the reply,

The scan doesn't show up too well as the lettering is white, but one of the tanks are marked "J12" and "Jericho", the other one has "F.4" "FLIRT II", "2179" and a four of hearts card marking. Hope this is of any help.

I believe that both markings named above represent tanks that participated in the Cambrai Offensive in November 1917. The "J" and "F" standing for the Batallion (J & F Batt.) the number representing the individual tank. The names are simply nicknames given to the tanks by the crew.

Flirt II is one of the surviving WW1 tanks and is currently in a museum in the town where it was built

A bit of Googling indicates that 10th Battalion weren't at Cambrai and J12 may have been used in 1918

Unfortunately I couldn't get the personal website in the link above to work

Thank you very much all for your responses,

"Flirt II" seems to be rather well covered then. Although I do wonder about the "2179" marking since I've found a picture of F.4 with a "T179" marking. It might very well be my eyes which has difficulties discriminating betweeen T and 2 in white text on white background ...

The personal website indeed seems to be unavailable. But J12 would then probably be depicted as somewhere around Achiet Le Grand and Sapignies around March 1918, according to the Great War forum link. But this "copy of the 10th bn" īthat is mentioned as available from the tank museum, what is that? Some kind of batallion/unit history?

I've ordered David Fletchers "The British tanks 1915-19" but has not received it yet, hopefully that can enlighten me further on this subject.

/Henrik
