I typed out {again} a rather long message to the group but it apparently was 'eaten' up by the Internet Gods.... Anyway, I was simply tryoing to say that I am fairly new here {posting}, but have been a lurker for some time now...normally I quite verbal and involved at the sites I frequent {Armorama.com for example, where I think I'm at just under 5000 posts...} But I have hesitated to speak up around here because you fellas are much more learned than I in regards to the Great War...{and here I was before I came here thinking I was 'pretty good'... } So, for the most part I have been reading and listening to you gents and sponging it all up, or at least as much as I can, what with my old synapse's and all.
I was originally going to post a 'GOOD GUY Alert' thread regarding our own Tim Rigsby's very kind help sending me pics/photos regarding my Bill Bus conversion, but then I thought.....you guys already known just how incredibly helpful our Tim can be.... I really enjoy all of the sharing of info and reference's you fella's post here for the benefit of the membership......very admirable
So, in an effort to give back, at least in some small way, something you guys might find interesting or enjoy I thought I'd try to post some pics that you might like......here' finger's crossed....
On another site {mentioned earlier}, someone was looking for FT-17 info for a Spanish Civil War Group Build. Well, I found these photo's in an effort to provide a handful of variant's he could pick from. With any luck at all, hopefully they will be 'new' to some of you.......
First up is what I originally thought was a Radio/Command version of the tank, but after further investigation I realized that it was, in truth, an FT-17 with a quad-legged mast mounted to the upper hull with a set of floodlights mounted to the top to aid in crowd control......
Next, is the fascine version of the venerable wee beastie......
And finally {for now}, is the most interesting {to me} of the variants, a mine-clearing version! Complete with what actually looks like plowshares {sp?}.....
One would think that the mine-clearing device is just a little too close to the hull....wouldn't one?....?
Anyway, hopefully someone finds these pics interesting.
Yes, one of those persons suggesting to me that a Forum should be started was Tim, and now he is moderating it, so he is in for thanks on several planes!
Tread, I'm glad you are not lurking anymore! I think that the tone of a Forum is crucial: you don't have to be a super-expert to speak out. I have also, again and again, been baffled by the level of expertise that can be seen here, and there are a bunch of people responsible for that! But then again: the expert is in dire need of so called "silly questions" in order to show his stuff.
All the best & thanks for the pics! They now sit pretty in my PC's swelling bank of photos! /Peter K
- click "D'EPOQUES". You'll find a real nice collection of FT17 photographs
- scroll down.
This FT17 variant probably wasn't a gas warfare tank. It was built after the Great War in Poland and existed as a prototype. My source suggests that it was a device which produced smoke to protect other vehicles, tanks etc.
Perhaps I can find other informations - shall I dig a little?
Tread, great pictures! The Mine Clearing FT17 is remarkable - well, remarkably hazardous, I should say...
Anonymous/Thomas - wonderful French site you've linked to - theat Polish smokescreen tank is marvellous! What a great modelmaking conversion it would be - who's up for it then?

Hello! I would like to apologize for the confusion I made. It looks that I made a silly mistake during the registration process and as a result I sent in the FT17 smoke tank link http://po2260.club.fr as "Anonymous" instead of "Thomas" or "Thomas Buecheler". Sorry - I have to improve my computer knowledge... are there any Great War manuals concerning this?!
