Hello All,

I havn't been on here for a while. But still check in often.

I have just returned from a trip to Flers, where I whent on a bit of a tank hunt.

We trudged across a muddy field to where we worked out that D6 was hit.

And right there were 2 large pieces of metal.

One looked like the rim of a tail wheel. And this is the other. Sort of girder but with bolts all along one side (so must of come off of a machine/ tank) Any ideas?

It was burried in the mud with one end poking out and Im cleaning it, along with a Spud from Cambrai.smile

Blimey that spud is fantastic! Lucky man! Could be part of the unditching beam?

Lucky man is right. The tanks at Flers wouldn't have carried unditching beams - these weren't introduced until mid 1917.

Any chance of a photo of the reverse of the spud/track extension please? And are there any maker's marks on it at all?

Here are some photos of the underside of my Spuds.

I have a clean one that I bought a while ago in Ypres.

I havn't found any stamps yet. But there is stil lots of hard mud and rust to get through.  So Im still hopefulsmile

The other bits are from Flers. I was wondering if the long bit I found with all the bolts. may have come from the D6 Tail Wheels?

We also found where D17 Dinnaken ditched. By a large dip (which is still there)   found some armour plate and bolts there, sticking out of the ground.

Also for those interested.

On my "new" Spud you can see how it was attatched to the track.

It comes in two parts and is held by two large bolts.

May be usefull for the modelers amoung us.smile

That's what a spud looks like? To the uninitiated, one might think it was a landship's anchor...
