Gun in Elverdinge (Belgium)

Hello,

Touring around in Ypres salient I found this gun:

IMGP3235.jpg

DSC_0013.jpg

Some references say it is a Krupp

95mm, other it is a Krupp 12cm SK79.

It should have been used by German army and later be captured by Allies, other say it was ordered by Belgian army before the war and used by them at the "IJzer"battle.

What is opinion of Yours?

Tks,

DJ

Hi DJ,

This gun has cropped up earlier. No definitive answer I fear...

Reading through the referenced thread I think there's a reasonable case for the gun being a 10.5cm German naval barrel on a 12cm carriage.

If this is so then the gun was proabably based on an old fortress gun, rebarreled, used by the German Army in 1915-16. The Belgians certainly

had similar fortress guns, such as the 1891 15cm Krupp/FRC gun and howitzer, I don't know if they acquired the 12cm Krupp fortress gun.

Some of the captured Belgian fortress guns were used by the German Army - a battery of 15cm Krupp/FRC howitzers was captured at Pozieres

in 1916.

Regards,

Charlie

A list of Belgian Fortress Artillery, from a few years back. Pretty sure this gun is in there.
