The attached images might be of interest - the 1919 Christie 155mm GPF SPG.

Like many Christie designs it was designed to run on wheels or tracks. Official trials recommended it should be produced

for troop trials but the forces of conservatism in the US Army killed all SPG development off in 1922/23.

I managed to pick up a copy of the patent specification for the Christie some time ago, to do with the wheels and tracks, and part of the drive chains which was submited to the British Patent Office in Aug. 28, 1919 and accepted Jan. 20, 1921. ( no. 156,853 ) As I was hoping to build one some day.

The Christie patent is easily accessible these days from http://worldwide.espacenet.com/ - just add "GB" to the patent number as the search

term. Looks like Christie patented the built vehicle rather than the usual patenting of a conceptual design.
