IWM's Mark V Being Restored
Permalink

Am I the last person to find out that IWM's Mark V is being restored at their Duxford location?

Now that you mention it, I think someone commented months ago that it was being removed for resto, but it certainly wasn't consciously in mind.

As Ironsides says, looks like they're going to make a lovely job of it.

Hope they paint it the right colour (approximately), instead of that dreadful dark green.

Fantastic photos - do you have any more. I am really interested in the construction of these tanks, so these type of photos are invaluable, especially details, interior and inside the hull shots
Thanks for posting

Like TCT I think I knew, but these are definitely the first photos I've seen, and absolutely smashing ones they are too. Thanks for posting. Where did they come from? Are there any on the IWM website?

I had not appreciated that there were springs between flanged rollers but not on those without flanges (see first photo). Something new every day.

There are two more photos:

They are from Richard Crockett's flickr stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/richard64pics/

The first of the five photos is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/richard64pics/9274800407/ and there are the usual scroll left and scroll right buttons. If you click the three dots in the bottom right corner, you get a number of options, one of which is "view all sizes". All five photos can be seen in a very large size: I have chosen the 800 size for this thread. Here's an example:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/richard64pics/9277578526/sizes/o/in/photostream/

A search of flickr using "IWM Mark V" gave some nice interior shots, but nothing recent: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=iwm+mark+v&ss=2&s=rec

I tried to interrogate IWM's site, but it remained steadfastly tight-lipped on the subject.

Very interesting - from what I saw of the ghastly IWM redevelopment plans it will be displayed in a similar fashion to the Mk I at Bovington but higher up

It would be cool to see it running in that red/black scheme :D .
