I'm pretty sure battle of Cambrai and later battles would be a good topic for a game.

 Yep, once you set foot in a trench, the next ones normally took you over the top. :)

 Probably the idea of plodding through mud at a top speed of 4mph doesn't really appeal much to the modern gamer psyche!

As a board wargamer back in the 70's (!) I remember some good WW1 games from SPI, Soldiers especially was very good, wish I hadn't sold it a while back.
