I think, this dokumentary could be very interesting.

Contrary to what the Arte site says, this documentary is in fact from the UK's Channel 5, originally broadcast in 2012 under the title 'WWI's Tunnels of Death: The Big Dig'.

Both episodes can be viewed, in English (and in the UK at least), on the Channel 5 web site which also contains some more detail about the programmes:
