French railway colours
Permalink

tried a search and could not find anything. Just wondering what colour the French used for their narrow gauge trains near the front. I am currently designing some 3D printed narrow gauge railway models in 1/35 scale. Fairly happy with British colours, suspect French will probably be similar.

I know nothing about trains but I would have thought French narrow gauge trains would have been painted "gris artillerie" or "vert olive".

I found an autochrome of a French Baldwin narrow gauge loco (attached) - the colours in autochromes are a bit tricky but the loco does look

like it's painted a dark grey colour.

Here's a colour chart of French railway colours - gris artillerie makes an appearance - http://www.3dtrains.com/guides/msts_colors/railroad_colors_fr_index.shtml

Regards,

Charlie

The railway colours used by the French in the Great War have been researched by Jeroen and has the details on his blog.If you send me an email then I could send you a link.

There seems to have been 2 colours used a light "horizon blue" and a green colour as used on the tanks.

As I said the full story is on Jeroens blog.

thanks for that. A blue-ish grey makes sence. the colour 'paintings' in book suggest that colour. Probably also some painted 'camouflage' colours as I have seen something like that on a French WW1 standard gauge Crochat petrol shunting loco.
