War at Home - part of the BBC's WW1 centenary event, has kicked off with an online feature on tanks - which members of this forum kindly helped with http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25109879

I've just seen it, very nice. The photo of the tank with what looks like a snorkel and flotation system midway down the page is something I've not seen before - anybody got any other information on this? Did it actually float....?

Yes it floated. There is another picture in the same sequence of it in the water (though it is a smallish dot). My sense of it is they were designed to cross the Rhine during the 1919 offensive. Obviously the idea was never tested in combat

That would be the MKIX possibly the worlds first purpose built tracked APC...
