Here are a few photos of my model, The Prototype Whippet with the Austin Armoured Car Turret, I still have quite a bit of work ahead of me. The basic substructure is about 85% done, So I have just started on the track assembly, I am also waiting for my tracks to come in from Accurate Models.
I am sorry they are blurrrrrred a little
I have also included a few photos my wife calls the MAD MANS ROOM. or in which I affectionately call my HOBBY ROOM./No Mans Land??
Excellent, nice to see I'm not the only one with heaps of unbuilt kits!
Now, I spy with my little eye... Madmansroom3 intrigues me - is that a scratchbuilt Italian 305 in progress on the right, the one with the huge wheeled carriage? And what's the monster gun to the left of it, also partially built?
And in Madmansroom1, on the left of the first shelf above the orange trays, is another big gun. What is it...?
Nice work on the Whippet, that will be a very interesting beast when done!
I've seen by now a number of 'madmansrooms' of fellow modellers, and they all look the same. So now I'm developing the theory that, when you place a modeller randomly in another modeller's madmansroom, he can easily find his way in the mess and finish the host's model without a problem. Isn't that a nice study for the average psychology students amongst us?
All the best, Michel (proud owner of a madmansroom for 20 years now)
Roger, you are correct, you do see a Italian 305, it is not in any particular scale, It is just a test model I am working on before I build a master. The other one is a large scale French Mortier de 370 Filloux, the other one is a Austrian 35 cm Naval Gun "Georg" it is in 1/32 scale.
Michel, Thanks for sharing your Madmansroom, its pretty cool to see no matter where you live they all look the sameGet your mind out of the gutter
By the way I have not forgotten about sending you those AC pictures, I will try and collect them this week and send them to you in a few days.
Eugene, thats not the half of my model collection, I have another room with about 150 more, I just buy and buy, hoping to one day build them
The two Helmets you see together are WW2 German, The solid black one, My father tripped over while guarding along the CZECH border in the 60's, he believes he was walking through a WW2 unmarked cemetery. The others, I have collected, I also have a WW1 Prussian Helmet, a few WW1 American, French,Portugese and Italian. I also collect medels, gas masks and WW1 rifiles.I also have an original American Tanker uniform, my Father bought me for my 30th Birthday, I have all sorts of provenance about the gentleman that owned it. great stuff..
All the best

Man, I really wish this site brought all new posts automatically to the top of the list, I seem to keep missing threads like this......anyway,
I just love your provided photos there Tim, especially your "Madman's Room". And I think I share our good Michel's theory about "...you place a modeller randomly in another modeller's madmansroom, he can easily find his way in the mess and finish the host's model without a problem...." I'll even go him one further and say, if you put a right-handed modeler in a left-handed modeler's MadManRoom he will probably be only slightly surprised to find the magnetic tool holder bar on the oppostite side of the room....
I absolutely enjoyed looking over your in-progress shots of your Whippet prototype. And thx for including some 'piece's/parts' pics as well Could you tell us how you did the cylindrical turret? I was looking for a seam, but couldn't find one. Did you use some PVC tubing, or, are you just good at hiding seams?
Also, what is the curved rear box-like structure at the rear of the hull instead of the regular stand-off armour plate? I also see you sanded off all of the moulded in kit detail on the front hull/engine cover plating...why? Because there is a difference betwix the standard Whippet and the prototype? And, {sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to narrow them done so I don't piss ya off }, did you work off of any plans for your kit bashing or did you just use the photo you posted about this earlier?
Ok, I'm done with the third degree......for now.
Tread.
PostScript: Almost forgot. I will have to try to post pics of my "Mad Man's Room" sometime soon, only I might have to dub it something more along the lines of ' Quiet Lunatic's Room' or ' Old Fart's Laboratory', or maybe even ' Crazy Bugger of the Infinite Patience Asylum' or something equally fitting......

Oh....and I can't post pics of my 'stash'.....mainly because it numbers in the several hundred's!, and is maily stored in it's own 10' x 20' storage locker down the street from me at a commercial Lock & Key. I quite literally could open up my own LHS.
First one,The Turret is from as you guessed it is a PVC type tubing. Just luck it was about the correct size.
Second one, the curved structure in the rear is the prototype gas tank: 1.the first prototype it was located in the rear: 2. The second prototype the round gas tank remained in the rear, with the substructure changed to the standard shape: 3. The third prototype, the round rear gas tank was moved to the front. Later as we no it, it was changed to the armoured version.
Third one, I sanded off the detail, becouse the prototype has no airvents, or vent for the exhaust. also no engine hood detail, except for handles.
All the best
