What American Tanks Were Used or Proposed in WWI?

Okay, as I understand it there was:

Mark V, Mark V*, Mark VIII, Ford 3ton, M1917, FT17, and Steam Tank, Holt Gas Electric Tank, Caterpillar Tank (which might have been only a movie mock up), Tiny Holt Rhombus Tank, Skeleton Tank, Studebaker Tank, Best 75 Tracklayer, Holt 3 Wheeled Steam Tank, Holt Tracklayer CLB 75.

Are there any more that at least made it to prototype or mock up stage for the USA in WWI?

Thanks.

Hi Mike, Landships II has a list here: http://www.landships.info/landships/tank_articles.html# look under USA.

not mentioned:

Ford MKI 3 man Tank 1000 ordered(cancelled with Armistice) one prototype built. not to be confused with the Ford 3 Ton 2 man Tank.

I do believe the tiny Holt you mention was a neither a prototype or a mock-up but a "model" built for the reception of a visiting dignitary.

Cheerswink

The question is overly simplistic to produce much insight. If the questions were:

What types of tank were in production or preparation for production in the USA at the time of the Armistice?

6-ton M1917, Ford 3-ton, Mark VIII

What types of tank were in service with the US Army at the time of the Armistice?

Mark V*, Renault FT - don't know about Mark V

Which vehicles were produced as prototpes or proof of concept during WW1

All the collection of strange Holts, etc.

Please note the usage FT17 is not encouraged on the forum. It is wrong, the tank was the Renault FT and we have made an implicit

promise to our French colleagues to discourage the incorrect usage.

Regards,

Charlie

The Automatic Machine Company put forward at least two designs for what they called the Automatic Land Cruiser:

Add the Hamilton or Victoria. Several photos, no explanation of name. The Caterpillar G9 was a film prop. Have we done the Ford 3-Man? One prototype only. And the 150 ton Field Monitors.

Ford designated the 3-man tank as the Mark I - 1000 were on order and cancelled at the time of the armistice.

There was also a Mark II - which was identical to the 6-ton M1917 but used the 60hp Hudson engine of the Mark I - one prototype completed.

Regards,

Charlie
