Mk VIII*

Having failed to find any thing other than descriptions of the proposed Mk VIII* I decided to use the data available ( including the fact that sections were to be added both fore and aft of the centre)and have a shot at producing my own artists impression which I enclose. Converting from vector to jpg has created a few wobbly lines but even so it looks an impressive beast (remember it would have been 2 feeet longer than a K wagen). Now if any one has any official drawings or better ideas lets hear it from you. If anyone can improve on the drawing I'll post the vector file.

Wow!! Centurion

Must say, I am impressed by your drawing, but I'm quite certainly not the mosted learned here about the Mark VIII* and it's profile. What I will say is I am impressed by it's sheer size!...{I'm getting that stretch "limo" feeling here }

I am also a wee bit surprised to find it having the 'International' configuration of the front track horn.....my failing, I thought it was more along the lines of the standard previous British Marks.....
Can't wait to see who/what & how anyone adds/changes this profile......

Tread.

Hey.....I don't suppose you could do a side-by-side comparison of your Mark VIII* drawing against the German K-Wagen could you?....I would think that would give some of us a more 'meaty' idea of the sheer size of both of these rather unique machines....

Thanks Treadhead

The horns were as per the standard Mk VIII (the International) as the intention was to adapt this by adding sections to the front and rear parts of the vehicle rather than build a different tank from scratch . The enclose picture should give an idea as to how it would have compared with the K Wagen

Howdy Centurion,

Sorry, I don't know where my mind was at, of course the track horns would be that shape....my failing

Your new graphic is way cool as well!......you must be employed in the graphics field or something huh? Wish I could whip up something like that on my Photoshop software.
From the size comparison the K-Wagen must have out-weighted the International by a considerable amount!
I don't suppose there are any drawings schematics showing the configuration of either the International or the Mk VIII*'s interior crew compartment is there?
{yeah...I know, I always ask these pain-in-the-ass questions don't I? }

Tread.

Thanks Treadhead - actually I'm an IT project manager/consultant but I've being doing graphics using a computer since Babbage was a lad.

K Wagen was 163 tons. Standard International (Mk VIII) 45 1/2 tons (with equipement about 38 tons empty. Mk VIII* would have been about 42 1/2 tons empty so probably 50 tons with equipment.

Ther are drawings of the Mk VIII insides but I've found nothing on the K wagen or Mk VIII*. I suspect that the rear of the crew campartment of the latter would have been extended by 6 ft.
