Interiors are included according to box-art, so it should outshine the old Tauro versions ! We are being swamped with WW1 armour so I hope someone decides on some softskins to support them

I hope that it is as accurate as the Takom Mark IV. Then I'll buy it immediately!

Well, it seems as if I should be ordered back to the military modelling community by force. But this keenly awaited novelty brings to mind one of my old projects that had remained hidden a long time:

I think I will have to unburrow all my old plans anywhere on my harddisk ....

@Blowhard:

Nice hearing from you too!

Cheers,

Peter

Not very well up on the A7V so the mention of the Krupp individually plated version doesn't immediately bring to mind which of the 18 or so A7Vs it would be possible to model.

However, I'd be more interested in the conversion potential based on a/ the quality of the interior and, b/ the quality of the suspension. In other words, how well they would lend themselves to construction of an A7V Uberlandwagen. Meng didn't make much of an effort on the partially hidden suspension of their Char 2C, so quite how they feel about the A7V remains to be seen.

Also, I am surprised that Meng haven't re-popped the Renault FT with a TSF sprue thrown in, or some other turret, yet... whilst they have the 1/35 FT monopoly [discounting old RPM kits]. Takom, on the other hand seem determined to work their moulds and keep banging out FT, St Chamond & Rhomboid variants for as long as possible.

PS - Really want to see someone do a nice 1/35 Hedi, so go Peter, go!

Great news!
Looking at the box the model depicts Wagen 504 "Schnuck". Wagen 504 was a tank of the first batch built by Krupp and became tank #1 of 2nd Abteilung in april 1918.
Other tanks of the same batch were Wagen 503, 541, 542 and 543.
Schnuck was captured in France and then shipped to London.
Note it was born as an unarmed supply tank (as Wagen 503) and then converted to a combat tank when it had the body from another tank whose frame broke down.As many other A7Vs, originally these tanks were born as a Female tank and they were converted to Male after German captured British tank in Cambrai finding a tank armed only with MGs was unsatisfactory in combat.
This tank and the model too has add-on armour plates on the driver cab.
They were added by 2nd Abteilung and fitted probably after the battle of Villers-Bretonneux
Regards,
Pierantonio

A second A7V in 1/35 scale, this has to be good news for A7V modellers. Perhaps now I will be able to walk into a local hobby store and find the Meng A7V on the shelf waiting for me, as the Tauro model seems to be virtually unobtainable in OZ.

The image on the Meng box is of a fairly generic A7V, I wonder how hard/easy this kit will be to convert to 506? Anyone know when the model will be released?

When Tamiya released it's Mk IV tank earlier this year I was hoping they would do an A7V to accompany it, possibly not now?

Pure speculation on my part but, if I were Tamiya - sending bods 7,000 miles to visit Bovvy & the Mus. of Lincs Life, I'd get them to stop off in Oz for a glance at Mephisto too...

Tamiya, like Dragon, has a huge following from German tank obsessives... so to ignore something that can be plastered with huge hoard-pleasing crosses [albeit imperial ones], would seem a little remiss of them?

Also, think about how simple a kit it would be for Tamiya to mould - if they are set on pursuing this nostalgic comedy motorisation fad of theirs.

Hi Dave,

First off, thanks for the compliment and sorry that I haven't been in touch for such a long time. I have to admit that my interest in mlitary modelling have faded continuously over the years, although I followed all the activities here in the background. However some data from my harddisk flowed into development of this or that aftermarket product, and as my daily occupation gets more demanding every year, and I have less and less time for my hobby, I was reasonably satisfied so. Moreover I think I have the ability to assess what is realistic at the moment. Modelling is more than ever compensation for my daily occupational stress, so I take my time...

On the other side, there are so much ideas and projects too (But please, don't ask for my SSW D.III ).

No, I have started a quite different subject about a year or two ago  which challenges me a lot and helps me dig deep for my best possible: A former industrial installation in my hometown. If you are interested, you can see it here: http://www.finescalerr.com/smf/index.php?topic=1976.0

Regarding the new Meng A7V, I hope this will set my interests in military modelling on fire again. In any case, "Hedi" plans are under construction, so we will see ...

I do remember your Emhar Mk IV (1st place at the 2009 IPMS USA Nationals) very well. What are your plans? An A7V ???

Cheers,

Peter

Hey Peter, my interest in modeling hasn't faded but my eyesight sure has! No matter what glasses or optical magnifiers I use it just doesn't seem right. So I think about modeling all the time but I get pretty discouraged whenever I try something. I've got several projects started but they all feel either impossible or below my standards. I just have to work harder I guess. And there is always the time issue you mention as well. And with my I have too many interests and not enough focus on any one of them.

WOW! That is quite an interesting project you have linked too! Your stonework is AMAZING! It has the look and feel of the real thing. And from what I read you are still planning improvements? I can't wait to see the machinery, I bet it will be amazing!

As for the A7V, I might end up being a collector of unbuilt kits...or I might build them all. But one thing is for sure, I've dreamed of good quality 1/35 scale WW1 tank kits since the 70s and I want them all even if I don't build them!

Thanks for the link to the cable transmission project, it looks like it will be fantastic!
