Canon de 75 breech inscriptions
Permalink

Hello gentlemen

I recently photographed a Canon de 75 Md. 1897 here in Romania.

Unfortunatly the gun is a wreck, guarding a WW2 cemetery in Miraslau, Alba county, but there is a text visible on top of the barrel, just above the breech

n25677

ABS_1918

I assume the first is the individual serial of the gun, what is the second? Manufacturing date?

What else can be found out from the serial?

A number of these guns served from 1916 to 1945 with the Romanian Army.

126 pieces were in service in 1926.

ABS = Atelier de Construction de Bourges. The Mle 1897 guns were manufactured in state arsenals.

I agree that "n25677" is the serial number and "1918" is the date of manufacture.

Regards,

Charlie
