Hello, I have ran across a strange object in some photo’s apply entitled “Schnellwurf-Granatenmaschine” {Photo’s Attached} I have seen it before but I can not find my reference material, can any one help with information, extra photo’s etc. Anything would be very much appreciated.
Going by the uniforms definitely KuK. Their National Library has copious quantities of info digitised and maybe worth a look. I have sourced quite a bit of info re their WW1 MT aspect from this source. Cheers....Rod
Tim, You've got to recover those references; I've not seen this contraption before!
These pics deserve close scrutiny. You will note they are from the same hour of time span. The empty casings are distributed exactly the same in each photo; obviously taken at a test range somewhere.
The casing themselves appear to be standard 8cm, likely HE. You can discern the elevation arm resting on the rear of the firing platform. It appears the rounds were simply launched by manual firing plunger. The absence of a barrel would practically eliminate recoil issues( projectile would not be squeezed by rifling). Ballistic-ally, most inferior, but highly efficient when launching projectiles a short distance.
