Landships II

Check out the cardmodels on Landships II - Wayne McCullough has designed a 1/72 Char Caisson Saint-Chamond.

There weren't major differences between the early Saint-Chamond tank and the Char Caisson - the gun port and MG ports were plated over.

  WOW!  Somebody not only has done it, but it has proven far more complicated than I anticipated.

Still, the early St. Chamond was probably far more successful in the caisson role than in the fighting role.

48 Saint Chamond in early model (with flat roof) were built in Recovery tank (Saint Chamond caisson).

All these tanks were modified in factory and never in units.

When the order was given to built these Saint Chamond caisson, some of these tanks haven already received their gun.

The biggest difference from the front tank is there :

                    - St Chamond with dismanted gun,

                    - St Chamond built without gun.

The other Saint Chamond M1 (with double armor) were used in Groups in all fights with tanks in 1917 and 1918,

and very often with the two models (M1 and M2) in the same Battery.

In September/October 1918, the Saint Chamond's Groups (AS 34 and AS 35) fighting with the American Army used already M1 mixed with M2.

There is no combat team reports speaking about problems in the M1 and is flat roof . . . . .
