Barbed Wire Protective Equipment - Leggings?

I was talking with some friends about modern barbed wire and was trying to illustrate why concertina wire needed pickets to stop it just being crushed easily with blankets etc and a google search led to the British Pathe.

I watched this footage a couple of times and I think I see Patent resin impregnatied wire proof gloves at work but are these some protective leggings on the same ilk?

I don't recall ever seeing such an item before and know nothing about them. Any help appreciated

Thank you for posting the video. I have not seen those leggings before, they look to be made of padded canvas. The gloves look like standard leather wiring gloves, later ones used to have metal staples to stop barbed wire penetration.

I wonder why did they use it. Everything has a purpose, right?
