Something that crossed my mind while I was attempting to explain to a pillock on Wikipedia that the "Short" Hotchkiss was manufactured in Coventry, not Enfield:
The Mk V*s that were delivered to the French - what machine guns did they carry? I can't consult chars-francais.net because the site is down at the moment, but I wondered whether they still had the .303 version (which would require stocks of .303 ammunition), whether it was replaced by the French 8mm Lebel version, or whether a different gun altogether was used. Anybody know?

The French Hotchkiss was too long to be used in the Mark V*.
424 british Hotchkiss was sent in November 1918 in two waggons, with spares and 50 belt loading machines. (Report from Général Estienne from 6 November 1918)
