I took several photos of this Canon de 155 C ( for Court-or "Short" Mle. 1917 at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Museum some years ago. This is the only one that survived.
I take it to be a Schneider Mod. 1917 howitzer, judging from the rubber-rimmed tires, an Italian example captured during WW2 . Any comments to the contrary would be appreciated..
Unfortunately that is the only photo that survived a fire which devastated the library (and museum) of our club some years ago. I have never seen a pic of a French or U.S. 1917 how with those narrow rubber tires, though I've seen many with pnenumatic tires Gunther
A bit of an "Off topic" , but I think you'll find thie Model 1917-look alike interesting: An Argentine Schneider 155 mm L.15 Howitzer modernized with pneumatic tires abd donated to the Bolivian Army. It is operated by the 5th Bolivian Artillery regiment. ( personally I find such non-military paint on a gun most unprofessional!)
