Help identifying an artillery support wagon
Permalink

I'm new to this forum and I am trying to identify a wagon for a friend of mine who is an army historian researching the American 29th Division in WWI.  Please look at the attached photo - it appears to me to be some sort of German artillery support wagon.  Any thoughts or leads would be greatly appreciated.   We'd also be interested in any thoughts about the camouflage. Thanks!17546770_1433886126642544_4678778462517614959_o.jpg

This is a post-armistice photograph depicting one of the transport wagons for the German 42cm Mörser; appears to be carrying the recoil/recouperators.   As explanation, the Armistice terms required the German Army to leave in place all heavy artillery, and 25% of field artillery.   The troops pictured are charged with the task of removing the entire weapon system for eventual transfer to Ordnance Department personnel at Aberdeen, MD.

Now you know how hundreds of pieces were "captured" and moved to collection points in December and early Spring of 1919.

The white splotched camo appeared in 1918 and was an off-white color.  A similar scheme was used in 1945, which WW2 buffs refer to as "ambush camouflage".
