Can anyone suggest a reference source for the uniforms used by the Uhlan regiments in 1914 Belgium?  I've been reading a few books on early armoured cars, and Uhlans show up a lot.  It would make for a great diorama to have a Minerva parked next to an "unhorsed" Uhlan sitting by the side of the road ...

All German cavaly were exactly armed; 10 ft lance, sabre, carbine, and pistol.  The Uhlan uniform was differentiated by the headgear (tschapka), and their double breasted jackets with distictive epaulets.

I might warn you, that it was common for the chroniclers of this war to label all German cavalry as Uhlans.   As an example, the first encounter of the war for the Brits was when a squadron of Dragoon Guards (80 horsement) clashed with a much smaller German cavalry patrol.  They were identified as Uhlans, when in fact they were from the 4th Cuirassier.

Thanks, I can understand the confusion.  While the dress uniforms were very colorful and ornate, what would the active service uniforms been like?

Uhlan uniforms were feldgrau; same hue as the 1910 blouse.  ( Some reserve elements of all arms went to war in pre-1910 uniforms.  Early war photos of these soldiers in field grey blouses with blue trousers are not uncommon.)
