What was the small cylinder used for inside the fighting compartment of the Mediem A Whippet? The pipes that went down to the engine compartment are missing on the Bovington Whippet iImage1.jpgnside which this photograph was taken.

I think it is most probably an Autovac vacuum fuel pump. Where fitted, these were usually accessible to the driver and were always positioned above the carburetor. There would have been 3 pipes: 1 from the fuel tank to the bottom, 1 from the top to the engines and 1 into the top for induction air.
