Thanks for that - I was vaguely aware of the site but hadn't looked at it for years - it certainly has expanded.
Many old French artillery pieces were dragged out of fortresses and used in the front line after it was realised that
the 75mm mle 1897 wasn't a panacea for all artillery needs and there just weren't enough heavier guns in service.
