Anyone know of a good book on the Belgians in wwI? Preferably in English.

Looking for weapons used, organization and battles.

Thanks!

Chris

Don't know of a book exclusivly on the Belgians but Army Uniforms of WW1 by Andrew Mollow and Pierrre Turner (Blandford Press) gives some reasonably good coverage of uniforms, personal equipment, units and ranks

I believe Osprey had a poll connected to their wish list, on a men-at-arms book on WW1 Belgians. Maybe it's still there and you can influence it... Hopefully they'll publish something within a couple of years....
I'm frequently in Belgium but haven't found any book on the subject so far, to my regret.

all the best,
Michel.

I think this book can help you:

“World War I Infantry in colour photographs”, The Crowood Press.

There's some stuff on here that might be useful:  http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Camp/4403/Militaria.html

I've got a Blandford Press book on WW1 uniforms that has a section on Belgium. I'll dig it out over the weekend.

This may be of interest as it gives some useful details of Begian infantry and officers in 1914. The troops are atempting to defend Antwerp. Given that this was very much a last ditch effort (literally0 the officers look remarkably cheerful.

BTW is it just me thats having great dificulty with the forum today - it sems to take 3 or 4 attempts to do anything?

“World War I Infantry in colour photographs”, The Crowood Press. - Intersting book (picked it up yesterday) !

Very cool pics, thanks. Almost makes me want to do some 1914 armies. It still seems the late war Belgian stuff is hard to find. They seem to have fashioned their equipment on a mix of the French and the British. I wonder if they modeled their company organization after them also?

I know they had the Chauchat and Lewis guns just not sure how they were deployed. I assume they had the Stokes mortar.

Anyone know if their Armoured Cars were still operating in 1918?
