Looking for information on Blinov and any possible claim that Russia may have invented the Tank
Permalink

Hello. I have a fancy to write a series of short articles on who could have invented the tank, so far I have done Leonardo da Vinci and H G Wells. I know of the Mendeleev tank, Vezdekhod (vezdepod whatever !!!), Tsar tank, Rybinsk 20 ton tank etc, but I know that Blinov came up with a tracked tractor in the late 19th century. Was there ever a design that put guns and armour on his tractor? Is there some other Russian project that could, with a big stretch of the imagination, be considered the first tank?

Obviously, this 'project' is a tiny speck of history and a bucketful of speculation, similar to all the shows on The History Channel and Erich von Däniken's collected works. I hope they can be put on Landships here and Landships Facebook. I hope our wonderful website isn't quite dead just yet.

Fyodor Blinov was a Russian inventor who created a tracked wagon in the 1870s which was pulled by horses. This was patented in 1879.

He reportedly added a steam engine to the wagon in the 1880s and demonstrated it at an exhibition of agricultural machinery in 1896.

There is a cardmodel of what it is thought the Blinov tractor may have looked like at: https://vk.com/photo-53733134_456242243.

Blinov died in 1902.

Regards,

Charlie
