Scunthorpe's Presentation Tank
Permalink

I stumbled across a photo of Scunthorpe's presentation tank that made it look like their tank was a supply or baggage tank (tank tender). I looked for other photos and found some, and, yes, Scunthorpe's presentation tank was a baggage tank that appears to have been used for training.

Looking at the East End of the church, with a First World War Tank in the foreground. The tank was presented to Scunthorpe in March 1920, and is a Mark IV Tender - a supply tank conversion of the Mark IV fighting tank. These tanks acted as tank banks and were a publicity gimmick to sell war bonds and saving certificates. Women officials would sit inside the tanks and sell the war bonds and certificates. The first one was set up in Trafalgar Square on 26/11/19. This tank's markings indicate it was used for training in the UK. It is believed to have been moved from this location in October 1920 and eventually scrapped in 1927.
