Alternatives to expensive plastic card?

I'm in Australia and plastic card is kinda expensive and I have a ton of scratch building to do. As this stuff isn't scale-critical (things like workshop pulleys and so on that have variable sizes) I was wondering if anyone has some nifty alternatives to store-bought plastic card so i can keep it for my armour plate.

You may like to consider 120/160 gsm card soaked in CA glue has properties similar to plastic card.

An alternative is to use card with sanding sealer.

I've recently seen this gentleman create a stunning bit of train modelling using . . .
. . . . Flattened PVC pipe

Afternoon Jim,

I do not know what equipment you already have, but will make some suggestions.
PS: I do not know how easy the following things are to achieve/get in Australia but:

- Wash & clean the plastic from food containers/tubs/boxes etc.
- Visit your local equivalent of a 'dollar store' and see if they sell anything useable.
- Clay can be useable and shaped for the bigger parts of your built (air/heat drying).
- If you happen to own a laser cutter you can use chipboard of 3/4/5/6 MM thickness.
- For thicker parts sometimes recycled cardboard can come in handy top layered with putty/filler/primer.
- An obvious one if you own a 3D printer (and if that is your kind of jam) you can always do that saving on material.

Best regards,
