Card Stock Thickness for Paper Models?

Hello Everyone,

What card stock thickness is recommended for printing out plans for paper models? I am thinking about having a go at them but there seems to be no mention of what stock thickness and/or any type of materials to use.

Thanks in advance.

If the models are from Landships II then the card should be about 160 gsm. I don't know what that is in US paper weights. Cardmodels aren't really fussy about thickness so anything approximately 160gsm will do. If reinforcement of the model is required the designer will usually indicate what thickness to use.

And while I've got your attention - what happened to the 3D model of the Mark IV engine and transmission?

Regards,

Charlie

Hello Charlie,

Thanks for the reply for card stock thickness. It seems 50lb stock (in Canada) is comparable to 160gcm. I've printed off a few copies and the stock works in my printer and images came out sharp. I'll try working with it and see how it goes.

I worked on the Mark IV engine, differential, and subframe for awhile after posting. I continued with other 3D modelling on Mark I, with steering tail and Mark V tanks. Gave a stab at modelling the skeleton tank as well. Even played around with modelling Little Willie. Then got interested in other projects that caught my eye. The plan is some day get back these and complete them to a finished level.

Regards

Godzilla

You might like to invest in a can of spray on acrylic - matt is usually better. A light coat on the printed sheets really helps. The spray stabilises the print and also stops excess glue marking the printed surface
