Colt MG in German hands?

A Great War doco on tv. Very brief shot of what appears to be Colt MG being fired by German crew. Any explanation? I read somewhere that some Colts were captured and pressed into service in WWII, but this chap's helmet is WWI, I think.

Some South American countries adopted the German Stahlhelm after WW1 - are you sure the troops in the image are German?

The Colt MG was adopted by a number of South American countries - quick search gave me Bolivia and Uruguay.

Ah. Well, it's in a doco about the Western Front, but we know that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Thank you, Charles. Enquiries continue.
