June 16, 1916, at the "Elveden Explosives Area" in Norfolk. Lt. Basil Henriques H.S.M.G.C. observes as the artist Lt.-Col. Solomon J. Solomon R.E. camouflages Mother. Henriques recalls that Solomon "painted her with as much care and trouble as if he were covering a canvas for the Royal Academy. I can see him now standing away from the tank with one eye closed and holding his brush at arm's length between the delicate touches that he painted on to her." The scheme reminded Henriques of a "jolly landscape in green against a pink sunset sky". Due to a shortage of training weapons, Mother's 6-pounder guns have been removed.


The kit is the Airfix Mk.I/II with Matador conversion parts. The figures and accessories are from Scale Link and Emhar.

Many thanks for your kind comments, gentlemen. The dio took a medal at the Vancouver Island Open on the weekend, but I must confess that competition in the braille scale WW1 armour catagory was hardly overwhelming - in fact, it was non-existent! Next up - completing the 1:15 Firing Line Mk.I, after a slight delay due to conscription by my son for painting duty on his Chaos Space Marines. Odd that the tank designers of the 41st millenium will look to France ca. 1927 for their inspiration...
