We all own books that deal predominantly with modern tanks, or perhaps WWII tanks. Yet, in these books there are sometimes a few images of WWI tanks aswell. Often, these images that are out of place for the majority of the book, may not be images you have seen in other books. These images here are some of those. I am sure many of you have seen them before. However, I haven't found them in any other book I own, so I thought I might post them.
I've posted a larger, clearer and less cropped version of the first picture in an earlier thread. In it one can see three beute ps all in the same postition. From this and the generally relaxed attitudes of the soldiers in the vicinity I conclude that this is a training site and they are practicing unditching.
Taking the first picture further you might like to see what happened to that first tank when it got into that position for real rather than in training.
To continue the saga here is the same tank before it met its end. The aircraft appears to be a Pfalz DIII single seat fighter. This is interesting because there is another photo allegedly showing a British tank wreathed in smoke under attack by a German aircraft which, surprise surprise, appears to be a Pfalz DIII (in fact the Pfalz was not a ground attack fighter and did not carry bombs). I suspect that this is in fact the same Beute panzer being used for a propoganda photo. I am investigating and will report.
