small poll on new decals
Permalink

As some might recall, I've been busy earlier this year with Peter Kempf, making designs for Landships Decals. Unfortunately we had to stop, since the ALPS printer had to be returned to it's owner. There were many positive reactions when we were still in business, and it seemed that we were filling a gap for many modellers. I have in the meantime been continuing designing and made some testprints at home on Testors decalpaper, even though it's without white ink. The people to whom I showed these tests at the IMM small scale event in Germany all responded enthousiastically. I'm now discussing with the guys of Giesbers Models to start decals production but am also considering to start by myself. Before doing the investment (these ALPS printers are pretty expensive) I'd like to check the market, to find out what decals are wanted the most, so I would much appreciate it, if you all could please answer (in short) the following questions:
1. What scale you usually build?
2. What theme (period, country, type of vehicles) you prefer to build?
3. What would be your three most wanted decal sheets?

Thanks in advance for helping me on this.
Michel Boer.

Hello,

I am interested by some marking for the Mk V* and Mk VIII (Cromwell kits)
An other interesting subject is the markings on the sides of the trucks, Fiat, Berliet ... for the kits Fiat 18BL, 15 ter from Mr Panzer, for the re-release of the Berliet CBA by Retrokit ...
I don't know if the Mack trucks had also this type of marking.

All in 1/72, of course

All the best

Sounds promising, Michel! Here's my pennyworth...

1. 1/72
2. WW1; Britain, Germany, France, USA, Italy; tracked AFVs
3. British Mk I tank; Anglo-American Mk VIII tank; French Char 2C

1. is invariable.
2. is unsatisfyingly vague, I'm afraid!
3. is a bare minimum to cover current projects, but potentially, I'd be up for buying most anything eventually...

  1. 1/76, 1/72 (i.e. Braille scale)

  2. WWI Tanks

  3. Three most wanted would be A7V, British heavies (rhomboids), and Whippets.

I know that you've already produced decals for the Mk I - III's and Mk IV's but some more varieties, as well as beute panzers, would be great too.

Well, things look good for you guys; Peter Kempf had already made excellent decals for the MK-1. I already have completed a design for the MK-IV beute, and have decals for the Fiat trucks in preparation. For the Whippet I'm collecting info, including Russian and German markings. For the MK-5* and the MK-8, I have no info yet, so that will take some time. Don't hesitate to e-mail me photo's of the decals you'd like to see appearing.

all the best,
Michel.

Yes, we had to fold our little line of decals, but if you Michel decides to go into it on your own then that is REALLY good news, because the decals YOU made were really first class, very professional.

I want to say, that if you decide to have a go at making another decal line, I will gladly donate all the material I did on the Mk I-III, Mk IV, etc, the lot, for you to do what you want with, free of charge. And if you use some of it to produce decals from these files, be my guest!

I think it's a great idea to do such a line, and I would welcome decals on the following subjects:

A7V - Primarily for the EMHAR kit
Whippet - Primarily for the EMHAR kit
FT-17 - For the HäT & RPM kits
German Armoured Cars - For diverse resin ac kits
Allied Armoured Cars - For diverse resin ac kits

And that is just a start.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed here!

1. What scale you usually build?

- 1/72, 1/76 in a pinch!

2. What theme (period, country, type of vehicles) you prefer to build?

- Great War, all countries, tanks and armoured cars

3. What would be your three most wanted decal sheets?

- German Mk IV Beutepanzers, British WW1 Armoured Cars, A7V

Hope you do it. It would fill a gap.

Cheers
-Ron

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the support, which means a lot to me! I'll gladly use your designs, for which there's still much demand, as they're the only ones covering MK I - III and they're of good quality. I'm planning to do something for the FT-17 as well, because it's one of my favorite vehicles and used all over the world in exotic places like Lithuania, Estonia, Brazil, etc. As it seems, I'm also expected to do something for the A7V as well, but will have to do some research first.
I'll keep you all informed.

All the best,
Michel.

Tim,

OK, I forgive you for uttering 4 instead of 3 wishes (which is easy for those who are no genie in a bottle...). The markings for German trucks sound intriguing; would you have that picture (or more!) in a bigger resolution?
By the way, even though my preferred scale is 1/72&76, I'll most probably issue 1/35 decals as well. (Basically the same as the small scale decals, but then about twice as big).

all the best,
Michel.

Hello Michel

I only have the original photo, It is in color, and I changed it to black and white to go along with my B/W drawings. it would be awesome to have it in color and black and white, to which both were used on German pkw's and lkw's. the standard B/W was used on troop vehicles and colored ones were used at the start of the war, and changed over to only staff vehicles in the following years.

By the way it would be great to get some of the decals you have out now in 1/35 scale.

hint,hint,hint!!!!!!!

All the best

Tim R

P.S. How about a 1/35 scale decal of you call sign, its quite hard to paint one on you no!!!!!

Edited again, man typing nor spelling is my forte today.

Regarding 1/35 scale decals: Michel, correct me if I am wrong, but once you have made digital decals in, say, 1/72, it's VERY simple to make 1/35 versions of the same. Am I right?

Yep, right, as usual . It's no big deal to turn 1/72 decals into 1/35, although there are two drawbacks. One is that it takes up more paper space, thus increasing the sales price. Two is that I intend to make decals for existing models; I know pretty well what's available in 1/72, but haven't a clue to what's available in 1/35 scale...

Tim, I'll figure it out in due time, but you may indeed expect at least some 1/35 decals, like my callsign/avatar. Would be great if you could scan and send me that German truck symbol, preferrably in color.

all the best,
Michel.

1. Braille scale.

2. Any period, but since this is a great war forum... AFV:s, softskins, aircraft, ships...you name it!

3. A7V "Hedi" and other german 1919 unrest markings, LKW:s and french vehicles.

Really looking forward to the new decals!
