A bit more on-topic now...


From Popular Science of February 1919 comes this intriguing proposal, to use retired tanks as tractors:



Was it ever done? Or was it merely another pie-in-the-sky magazine pipedream?


Skipping back to February 1905, Popular Mechanics displays the latest in artillery traction!



And May 1913's issue has the latest in infantry protection (well, in France at any rate):



Finally, this beastly contraption looks like the Steam Tank on steroids!



It's from Everyday Science & Mechanics, date unknown, but some time between 1931, when the magazine first appeared, and 1937, when the title changed. This is the most dubious one of all, appearing, as it does, in a publication of the notorious Hugo Gernsback.
