Photos of a German sniper shield at the AWM. Notice the camouflage paint on the shield. It doesn't appear to have been repainted since it was captured. The dark photo gives a rough idea of how it looks in ordinary museum lighting.
The paint scheme looks very like a hand painted version of one of the printed lozenge schemes adopted for the CL class of German two seaters used for ground support and attack. Some aircraft actually had hand painted lozenge schemes bery similar (when the regualtaion for the adoption of lozenge printed camuflage came out some groundcrews repainted existing aircrft by hand to match.
