AWM Mk IV

As promised, pictures of "Grit". The pictures are:

  1. Photos 1 - 6: A walk round the exterior.

  2. Photos 7 - 15: A walk round (sort of) the interior.

  3. Photos 16 - 23: Various shots of the starboard sponson.

  4. Photo 24 - 25: Possible original paint.

The exterior colour... yes, it is green but no, that isn't the original colour. I emailed before I went to find out whether it had been repainted and I wasn't surprised when they said yes. Apparently there is some original colour underneath the tank but on the shots I took there isn't a distinctive line and there is a degree of rusting and rubbing wear and oil stains which could muck up any attempt to see what the original colour looks like.

Great stuff! Thank you Mark. Those make very good close-detail reference shots.

It is sort of disturbing that there is so much scratched in graffiti on the tank... At least they're not scratching it into the original paint! I suppose thats one plus for the new paint job, they can always just give it another coat to blot out all the juvenile vandalism on it.

No problem, Vil. Incidentally, I only took detail shots of the starboard sponson because the port, as expected, is an exact mirror.

It's funny but I hadn't noticed the graffiti before I took the pictures. I think the extra light from the flash emphasised it. The light levels in the AWM are fairly low, presumably to prevent fading, and it's hard to see the graffiti.

Thanks for the photos. My grandfather was one of the operators of "Grit" after his return from France in 1919, and toured the eastern states displaying it to raise funds for the War. We have a nice photo of the crew in front of the tank which I will add to this forum if I can get my daughter to work out how to do it. Regards
