Browsing one of the military modelling magazines recently, I spotted a tiny photo of a gold medal winner at EuroMilitaire 2006 - a superb scratchbuilt Holt SPG (builder unknown). Much browsing on the internet uncovered one photo:

...I can't match it to any particular weapon. Does anyone know what it is? Irrespective, it's a lovely model, and I thought you might be interested in seeing it.

   Thanks for sharing; this is indeed an awesome scratch build. The Model is of the Holt 240 Mark III Model M1, unfortunately, TANKS only shows the Mark III version, which resembles the model slightly. As stated on TANKS there was only 1 Mark III Model M1 built, and alas photos are extremely rare.

The Mk 1 carried an 8in Howitzer, the MkII mounted 155mm Gun, and the MkIII a 240mm howitzer.  Both the Mk III and Mk I carried the nose counter weight; with the model most closely resembling that of the Mk III.  


Though a superbly built model, it clearly departs from authenticity in a number of structual areas; particularly the articulated running gear, the prominant engine radiator, and the centrally balanced armament.

well, considering the obscurity of the peice in question, i think that can be forgiven :p

True. It certainly resembles the Mk III to an extent, but I still wonder if the model is of a vehicle not shown on the TANKS site. You can make out on the structure at the front (the nose counterweight?) the handwritten name 'JACK', and indeed, that model's EuroMilitaire entry is listed somewhere as 'JACK - Holt Gun'. The name is not visible on the photos of the Mk III on TANKS, though that proves nothing. It would be great to be able to contact the builder, but the only clue as to his/her identity was on a list of EuroMilitaire winners this year, which merely said 'S McPherson'. Not much to go on...

The builders name is Stuart McPherson, and I believe he has made various models of this nature over the past few years. Not sure where he's from though.

   Paul, you are correct this model is Stuart McPherson, He is a very good scratchbuilder, my only problems, with his work, is his tracks, it seems they never match up with the real thing. But other than that he is very very good.


I have attached a few more photos of some of his models.
