Six-inch Newton mortar

I have been searching for information on the six-inch newton mortar. I can find no pictures of this weapon even though it was used by both British (or at least Canadian) and American forces during the war? Does anyone have statistics and photos?

thanks,

John Stapleton

Hi, John. There's plenty here to help, including review of 1/35 model of same.

Are you the John Stapleton, BBC presenter and famous Manchester City supporter, or is that just a coincidence?

Hmm, yes it is, but it shouldn't be. I've tried fixing it, but it won't have it. If you go to the Troubleshooters Home Page then to WW1 then to 80th "Blue Ridge" Infantry Div. you'll get it. Sorry about that.

Try this, then go to Next Page.

Thanks for the information, very much appreciated. To anwser your question James, im afraid the name is simply a coincidence, just an average Joe, or John which ever you prefer. The newton is an interesting design, looks like a much better version of the  a lot for the excellant information and pictures. That gas shell reminds me a lot of the british 2-inch toffee apple mortar. The Lee Enfield used to fire both the newton and 2-inch mortars used a ballistite cartridge, correct?
